Dive In: Yur’s Bar & Grill - A contemporary dive bar review

If you're anything like me, you wake up most days wondering if there's a place you can get a plate of meatballs and a few beers for under $20. I have fantastic news for me, that place is Yur's, and it's on 19th and Irving in Northwest. The perks don't stop at reasonably priced meatballs and beer; oh no. This is one of those bars where you know exactly what you're getting into, and I mean that in the best way possible.

You walk into a dimly lit bar, a Jamison whiskey sign greets you, you walk further in and see another brighter Jamison sign, its a "sign," you know what to do. I don't know if Pavlov himself designed this layout, but you want, nay, NEED Jamison when you enter this place. Their own description online is "No-frills American tavern & grill offering simple pub grub, pool tables & sports on TV." Check. Check. Check.

They have daily specials ranging from the standard "Taco Tuesday" to a Prime rib special on Thursdays, and they get the job done. However, the real standout here is the decor and the people. I introduced myself to Janice, the Bartender, and was greeted by a warm smile and a contagious laugh. Not to be outdone by the shining star behind the bar, a regular introduced herself, Sabrina. Her trucker hat and cheetah print jacket were all the signals I needed to know that this lady was, in fact, "a fucking blast. " She also met me with a smile, which she followed by a gentle pat down my arm. Her friend at the bar, whom I believed was named Kim, followed her lead by reaching out to investigate the pendant on my neckless. Covid rules be damned they wanted to greet a fellow patron!

From there, the rest of the Black Bulb team walked with me around the rest of the bar, checking out the wall art and other decor. The highlight of which had to be the moving diorama of Miss Piggy pole dancing for a Kermit, the frog in a gimp mask. (See Below). The pool tables are semi-regularly occupied by single people playing against themselves. The Jukebox in the corner is there, but there's really no need. A steady stream of ZZ Top, Rolling Stones, and other proper drinking music is already on. We finished our meal and prepared to leave. I decided to wash my hands and entered the bathroom. There I heard the sound of a man destroying the bathroom stall while singing sea shanties. The good times at Yurs never stop, even in the bathroom!

5/5 would drink at lunch here again.
