Keith Canva$ - Black Bulb Sessions
Keith Canva$ came into the studio here radiating energy, style, and with a pretty dope crew. We hit it off and recognized his striking resemblance to Frank Zappa. We couldn’t help but reminisce on the great emo bands of the early 2000s and you can hear the undertones in his music for sure. That being said, he’s building a name for himself alongside harmonious hip hop collaborators and vocalists. We actually got connected to Keith from Eso.XO.Supreme (another all-time fav of the mag) so I knew I could trust the guy, but then he changed into his outfit, which was a fedora with safari flaps on the back. Okay, that last part wasn’t true. He had a fresh fit.
It’s exciting to see some new blood flock to the scene with some of the classic vibes (emo is classic, now. I said it) and it’s good to see he’s focused on the live instrument element. Since this big dark evil world has brought electronic instruments to the forefront, it’s easy to forget about what it’s like to have a “band” or perform live with a band. Now, we didn’t have him bring the drummers in because we weren’t prepared for that, but still, I think that’s the shit that works. It’s almost like how Travis Barker is continuing on his solo career as a damn drummer. Who would’ve thought someone could have that much influence being the dude in the back with the sticks. It’s great seeing people break out the mold like that and just do whatever the hell they want.
Mr. Canva$ is putting a ton of energy into his new releases, and we couldn’t be more excited for the guy. Standing true with all the musicians we invite in, all we want for them is prosperity, happiness (even tho emo), and of course, success with their passions. It’s tough being a musician out there these days, so keep this dude on your radar, give him a follow on social media, and watch these videos because if you’re anything like me, you want some new fresh sounds, and this is it.
