Interview with Pono

Pono Pinto isn’t your average street artist. His roots span back to his home in Texas and found comfort in PDX with a strong Native American influence. I absolutely love seeing artists who can turn a traditional style modern, and that’s exactly what he’s done. One thing he does well that isn’t always discussed is his color palettes. He has a way of working in vibrant tones on woodcuts and with that epoxy gloss, it radiates deep soulful energy.

Learning more about Pono’s personal life, I’m not surprised at all that he has the ability to pursue “craftsman style” artwork. Many might stop once they realize it’ll require a wood router, but I have a feeling this is only the beginning for him. As of late, I’ve seen him dive into mural work too and I’d love to see how big he can make this style of work.

The art is sprinkled with symbolism all-around and always pops. Stay true to your craft Pono, and we got your back.
