Brennan Bartel - Metric Motorcycle Boi Summer
My love for motorcycles runs deep in my veins, and grips my soul like a horned up baboon in the heat of summer. I find a lot of my interests are well complemented when I meet fellow riders, and it stands true with Brennan Bartel. He’s a motorcycle enthusiast, and an exceptional builder. He’s new to Portland, but as a transplant from LA, I think he’s fitting in just fine.
It’s safe to assume most motorcycle riders find joy in activities that are thrilling, wild, and can take you off the beaten path, and that stands true with Brennan. His favorite bikes to build are old Kawsaki’s; and this may or may not be because most motorcycles being re-built are the BMW R NineT, Honda CBR, and of course, the beloved Sportster. He’s found love for the metric built bikes and has found tender love and joy for the brand.
As a creative, I see why he would want to explore outside the norm and set himself apart from the rest. Nothing is worse than feeling limited to a style that you’re not thrilled about. I remember back in the day when I did photography for ONE wedding, and the next thing you know, everyone is trying to haggle you for a bullsh*t deal that will work you to death. I can see that being similar in the motorcycle builder world. You do ONE clean looking, minimal BMW Cafe, and next thing you know you’re the “BMW Cafe Guy” with a line out the door for you to do the exact same job, over, and over, and over, and over.
Gotta keep things spicy, and I appreciate that. Homie Brennan rides a retro Kawasaki Police squad bike. He kept it white, but tricked it out. He believes in keeping some of the bike's history integrated into the end design, and I think that mentality is core to him as a person. Unless you’re a total piece of shit, you should continue to grow, find experiences, but always apply those new experiences to your current self. Alright, enough of that sentimental shit.
Brennan will be displaying a couple of his bikes at The One Moto Show presented by See See Motorcycles this summer. In past years, I’ve had absolutely way too much fun at these events, so be sure to see him and his Kawasaki’s on display in all their grand beauty. Thank YOU Brennan for taking some time outside your busy life to chat with us, and we’ll see yo’ ass at the show.
